Mark likes french toast on account of just how easy it is to make. You don't need much in the way of ingredients, and french toast is a wonderfully filling breakfast on a chilly New England winter's morning!
Ingredients:
2 beaten eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
Stale-ish bread
Dash of cinnamon
Maple syrup (preferably from New England!)
Powdered sugar (optional)
Butter or margerine
Tools:
mixing bowl
fork (to mix with)
frying pan or griddle
spatula
What to do:
Mix the eggs, salt, cinnamon, and milk. Dip bread into the mixture, making sure to cover each slice evenly. Slightly stale bread works best because it isn't already soft. Place the covered bread into your heated, greased frying pan or on your griddle. Make sure the surface isn't too hot, or else you'll wind up wrecking your pan as well as your french toast. Make sure the bread gets nice and browned on both sides, stack the slices on a plate, and serve.
You can slice your stack of french toast diagonally, and put a pat of butter on each triangular stack. Then pour over some of that good New England maple syrup. Some folks sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top of their french toast, but not Mark.
Serves 1-2.
